Hi Humpa,
Here's one for ya...At work, I frequently need to take a screenshot of something and can only save it in bmp format. I then need to post that image on the web. Do you know of an easy enough script I can run on my server that will convert from bmp to gif or jpeg? The bmp's are always way too big (in file size)...
I've looked at some modules - dcraw, netpbm, but can't really understand them! I can't use imagemagick because of the exec() function being disabled by my PITA hosts once again
Thanks |

Result!
I've managed to figure it out myself. I've got a simple uploader for bmp's and then convert them to jpg & gif. Should anyone want a copy of the code, let me know and I'll post it up. |

Sorry, I saw your original post but before I could respond or give it any consideration, something else grabbed my attention and I forgot all about it.
The only thing I recall is wondering why you couldn't simply save your screenshots as jpg's. |

No problem - by not replying, you helped me...By looking around, I feel like I learnt something, y'know?
My screenshots - well, unfortunately I only have Paint on my pc at work When saving a screen grab using this, I only have the choice of:
Monochrome bitmap
16 colour bitmap
256 colour bitmap
24-bit bitmap
gif
But when saving as a gif, I lose a lot of colour which is no good for my work.
So that's why I had to find a way around things. A guy I work with has Photoshop but it's a pain firing up his pc, logging on, doing what I need to do and powering it down again (he doesn't leave his pc on)...So now I have what I need, it's a lot quicker and easier for me |

Well, I do at home of course, but in the office there's just the one copy of it...Bad enough trying to get the boss to allow me to install freeware that would benefit my working day, let alone the $$$ for Photoshop |
