hey Humpa, long time, no question! Something you said a while ago has stayed with me: "I'd rather pay for real internet access than have fake internet access for free" (I paraphrase). I probably would have been content to limp along with my e815s till they disintergrated, but my 13 yo daughter has been whining for a new phone, so we just picked out two new LGs: Venus for her, Voyager for me. Voyager not in stock, so I don't even have it yet, but I have a few questions, mostly either dumb or subjective, that I want to ask you ('cause you've always been so tolerant of the dumb and subjective).
1. I guess it goes without saying that I can't just take the SD card out of the e815 and put it in either LG. Would you agree that I must back up the contents to the computer, reformat the card in the LG, then load the stuff back on the card?
2. I thought you had said that there is a feature that gives unlim. data (sorry for not searching) but I think my VZW rep said I'd be billed by the MB; thoughts?
3. Thinking about selling my e815's on HoFo, but none are perfect. One has vibrate issues (only vibe-dot-dot works), one will not charge batteries, and one is mangled and would only be good for parts (we used it to charge batteries for the one that won't charge). That said, I have 4 or 5 a/c chargers, a VPC, extra batteries, a holster or 2 or 3......any thoughts on the value, if any, of these?
Thanks as always! _________________ cellphone user since 1992

1. dont need to reformat the card ... just stick it in the new phone. You probably won't be able to see the content on it since they use different folder names - but you can drag the stuff the appropriate folders using your card reader.
2. $15/month for VCast pak that has unlimited data. This needs to be on any phone number that you need data - so it is $15 per line. Any line without that will be $1.99/mb
3. no idea |

now that you mention it, I think that VCast feature is 'one month free' right now, meaning my daughter has it on her Venus (and that I must remember to cancel it on her line if i don't want to pay that $15). So that would mean that she has mobile web access too, right? _________________ cellphone user since 1992

Mobile Web is standard on the Nationwide plans ... but it is $1.99/mb for data on the NW plans unless you have the VCast |

Hey Humpa, phone arrived and I have a followup comment/question. Not sure if the features I use are ones that you use, but:
I did ultimately figure out the SD card. Sticking it in the Voyager and saving a photo or 2 to it formatted it, saving one folder called "Motorola". Once I got the card back into the reader/PC, I tried to simple copy my whole Audio folder to the My Music folder, but My Music doesn't seem to like folders. It wasn't until I moved the contents of one of my (many) folders that I had used in my e815 into the My Music folder that I could play them. It appears I'll have to first load all the songs into the My Music folder as individual mp3s, then make playlists using the phone itself, right? _________________ cellphone user since 1992

As far as I know, that is correct.
I know they can't be in sub-folders. But I don't know anything about playlists. I think you have to create them on the phone, but I'm not positive.
I use a real mp3 player for mp3's because phones just don't have the features that a real mp3 player has. Plus I'm anal, and it is bad enough listening to compressed music, so if I'm going to listen to compressed music then I use a reasonably high bitrate and I also use an mp3 player with good audio output specs. |

Thanks; I'm looking forward to having a slow weekday to really sift through all the Voyager threads out there. I prolly won't be doing any real hacking, but I do like the custom homepages I've briefly seen, and I would love to get rid of the "Verizon Wireless" banners. I don't suppose there's one or two definitive threads out there (like Mark Venture had for the e815, for example) that you'd recommend?
Also, I know you were never a big ringtone fan, but do you know if the Voyager has the same ringtone rules as the e815, i.e. .mid? _________________ cellphone user since 1992

I just use mp3 files. Never tried a mid
Mark_V has a Voyager page - you probably want to check that out.
EDIT: just remove the ERI banner if you don't want it to say Verizon Wireless. That's in the settings like it is for all Verizon UI phones.
Settings & Tools > Display Settings > ERI Banner |

just found and loaded your tv page; man it's awesome, thanks. I was reading the HoFo thread, having trouble downloading, and was cringing at the thought of entering them all one at a time. Now, to figure out which channels i really care about and which I don't (Sox games?.....hmmmmmm).
I checked out Mark's V10K page, and (unfortunately for me), it's not as dumbed-down as his old Moto pages were. Do you know what size photos fill the external and internal screens?
Also, you said you use mp3's for ringtones; I haven't ever used BitPim, which I assume is how you did it. Has no one figured a way to move tones from the "my sounds" folder on the card to the phone's memory? _________________ cellphone user since 1992

If you don't want to use BitPim, then just put them in the my_sounds folder and then send them to your self in a message.
And I have no idea what size photo to use .. I think both screens are something like 240x400 though. |

sent the mp3 sound to an invalid address (617@vzwpix.com), then played it from my sent items. Hit "options", and I'm offered play again, forward, erase, lock, save quick text, add to contacts, and message info, but no way to save the sound. Is that not the method? _________________ cellphone user since 1992

How many mb is it? How many seconds long is it?
Maybe try sending it to your phonenumber@vzw3g.com ...
People do this with all the LG's - there's lots of posts about it. Personally I wouldn't waste the 25cents. |

yeah, I know you're not a ringtone guy; thing is, like everything else we get accustomed to (especially as we age), it's hard to give up my designated rings: Papa Was A Rolling Stone for my dad, For The Love of Money for all business contacts, etc. These ringtones worked in my e815, and I have them as both .mid and .mp3, so hopefully I'll find a thread in which Mark_V might respond some sense in me.
There's so much to this phone, I'm doing my best to patiently search and not just Thread every stoopid question I have. I'm looking forward to checking your WAP homepage, as I've seen a few on HoFo that looked pretty cool. I thought I remeberd seeing an option in the phone to make my favorites list my home page, but haven't been able to re-find that. _________________ cellphone user since 1992

| I use custom ringtones - I just don't pay 25cents to do it. I just do it with BitPim over Bluetooth. |
