I will have to explore the world of BitPim; it's only because I always found simpler work-arounds with my e815 that I never had to tackle BitPim or seem edits. It seems that VZW must learn a little more about hack-proofing their phones with each new model, but all they really do is keep the casual 'hacker' like me from easily avoiding their pay features (like GIN ringtones or picture messaging, for examples).

Forgive me for asking questions that I could probably search some 40-50 page threads on HoFo for the answers, but you often have the simple answers without the STFF 'tude. Obviously, that applies when my issues pertain to features you also have interest in, so I fully understand that I may get a "beats me" response from time to time:
* how do I make the Voyager stop 'ringing' with "...call from...."? I don't use voice commands, so I've attempted to find every setting that involves it and defeat it. I don't like my phone to say "say a command" when I touch it, and I seem to have shut that off (for now), but it continues to announce calls with "...call from..." unless I keep it in vibrate mode. When I have a ring selected, it announces once (or twice?) before playing the ringtone.
* I use the $5 Mobile Email feature, which I like a lot better than what I was doing before: logging into each email account via the browser to check inboxes. I like how it alerts me to incoming mail, allowing me to hit one key to "read now", but when I want to just take it upon myself to check the email, it's nine keystrokes (I counted) to get to screen that shows my (three) email accounts. Know of a way to shorten that?
* another thing I liked about the e815 was that some settings were overridden when the phone was plugged in, like backlighting and ring/vibrate mode. The V seems to go dark even when plugged into the VPC or A/C; or am I doing something wrong?
* I think some pics I took at first were stored to the phone, while others since have stored to the card. (in the phone, My_Pics shows 52 pics, but when I put the card in my computer, I see 36). Is there a way to move pics from phone to card?

I thought the light stayed on when plugged in? I'm not sure about that one.

For the voice saying your caller's name, I believe that is in the Voice Command settings. Go to Voice Dial > Settings > Call Alert

I'm not familar with mobile email, so I don't know about that.

And BitPim is extremely simple. Easiest thing in the world. Wink
Mark_V has plenty of guides on his http://mark.cdmaforums.com pages

EDIT: and quit comparing everything to your E815. That uses the Motorola UI. Verizon now uses their own UI - you are comparing apples to oranges. Very Happy

Laughing I don't know how (or when) it happened, but I got old (49), and now everything gets compared to some old thing. People tell me about a new restaurant and I say "what did it used to be?"
I mention the e815 as a point of reference, but I guess I'm already nostalgic for it. It's important for me to realize, however, that I was missing my LG VX10 (!) for quite some time when I first got the e815. The Voyager is SO MUCH PHONE, that it will take me a while to settle in to which amazing features I want to use. Like, for example, the TV page that you created. It's so awesome that it's somewhat overwhelming. I look forward to taking enough time to find what might turn out to be favorites (too bad no NESN!). My various email apps are so klugey that it's worth $5/month to bypass their cumbersome home pages (much easier with a mouse). That makes the whole "custom home page" more of a challenge, in a way, since I previously wanted Hotmail, Work Exchange Server email, and Netfirms domain email all handy on a page, which now is unneccessary. I'll get there, eventually.

hey Humpa,
It strikes me that I should seek the V07 firmware update, if for no other reaso to at least be able to shortcut muy mobile email. what can I expect to lose, settings-wise when I do? I assume tones and shortcut keys, for example, but I'm hoping my contacts wouldn't be affected, as I've been painstakingly updating them with speed dial #'s and email addresses since I got the phone a couple of weeks ago.

Also, as an aside, I notice when I'm about to select Humpa.com from my favorites (on my PC), that you have a little custom icon that appears to be your face (?) How do you do that? The vast majority of my favorites just show the MSN Explorer icon, since that's the browser I'm using, with the exceptions being you, HoFo, VZW, Google, Yahoo and very few others. I'd like to have one for my website, but I wouldn't even know what that icon is called, never mind how to set it. The Humpa face icon doesn'r appear anywhere else on your site, as far as I know.

put a file in the root of your website called favicon.ico and that will show for the icon. It behaves oddly in IE sometimes though (like it will come and go depending on certain things).
For creating an ico file, there is a free plugin for photoshop floating around the web.

As to flashing to V07, you shouldn't lose anything at all - but backup your contacts and whatever just in case - as always.

y'know, they say this Mobile Email just checks Inboxes periodically, like hourly or something, but my phone just alerted me to your post-notification email faster than my home computer (with MSN)! Very cool! I'm reading the HoFo Firmware 07 sticky - backwards from page 31 - and I'm not yet sure whether I should do it myself right now or go to a store tom'w. Funny that I just started looking at this thread yesterday, and because hekidnappedher quoted a post of yours in his opening post, I assumed this has been around for a month. Now that I'm (backwards) up to page 28, I see that you just linked it yesterday!

hey Humpa, I'm subscribed to http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1317937 in HoFo, which I believe you're in as well. I just connected my phone to my computer via USB and saw a window I hadn't seen before, offering me a choice between two folders: Phones Internal Memory and data card. I looked in the Internal memory folder and saw that my ringtonesXXX.mp3 files are "buried" in folders, like "unknown artist" and "unknown album". might that be why I can't find them in My Ringtones? I tried to move them and it wouldn't let me; now I can't duplicate the process.......[/url]

I've never used that method - doesn't seem to be failsafe.
The 100% tried and true and never fail method is to simply use BitPim and put them in the actual ringtone folder and reboot the phone.

The ringtone folder varies from phone to phone. The older phones used \Brew\16452\lk\mr and the newer ones usually use \Brew\10889\ringtones
